## Overview

**Wog-WinMacChanger** is a lightweight Windows utility for changing the MAC address of compatible external USB WiFi adapters.

The tool modifies the adapter's Windows network configuration through its registry entry, allowing a locally administered MAC address to be configured without installing third-party drivers.

The project was developed as part of a personal wireless security research project investigating the limitations of **MAC address filtering** on a self-owned PisoWifi system.

### Research Objective

The project was created to demonstrate a fundamental weakness in MAC-based access control:

> A MAC address can be changed by the client device, meaning MAC filtering alone should not be treated as a strong authentication mechanism.

### Why External USB Adapters?

Compatibility depends on how the WiFi adapter's Windows driver handles MAC address configuration.

Many integrated laptop WiFi adapters enforce the hardware MAC through firmware or driver-level controls and may ignore registry-based overrides.

Some external USB WiFi adapters expose a configurable `NetworkAddress` value through their Windows network adapter configuration, making them compatible with this approach.
