AutoNest is a bilingual, full-stack automotive marketplace for vehicle sales and rentals. It provides public inventory discovery, customer and approved dealer workflows, role-specific dashboards, administration, media management, notifications, ratings, and auditable request state machines.

## Stack

- Next.js App Router, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn-style Radix primitives
- MongoDB with Mongoose repositories
- Better Auth with email verification and password recovery
- Cloudinary image uploads and lifecycle cleanup
- next-intl for English and Arabic, including document-level RTL
- React Hook Form and Zod, Zustand, Recharts, Lucide, and Sonner

## Run locally

Requirements: Node.js 20.9 or newer and a MongoDB database.

Open `http://localhost:3000`; requests are redirected to the active locale (`/en` or `/ar`).

Populate every required value in `.env.local`. `ADMIN_BOOTSTRAP_EMAIL` promotes only the matching email address during account creation; ownership is still enforced by mandatory email verification. Remove it after provisioning the first administrator. Cloudinary credentials are needed when clients upload inventory media. Resend delivers transactional verification and password-recovery messages.

## Roles and workflows

- Customers browse, favorite, request rentals or purchases, and review cars after an eligible completed transaction.
- Clients must be approved before creating inventory or processing assigned requests.
- Admins approve or suspend users, moderate the marketplace, and inspect platform analytics.
- Rental and purchase requests use explicit server-side transition rules. Ownership, role, approval, input validation, and resource state are rechecked at every mutation boundary.

## Quality and production

`npm run check` runs TypeScript, ESLint, and the optimized production build. Environment values in `.env.example` are placeholders—never commit real secrets.

Before deployment, set `BETTER_AUTH_URL` to the canonical HTTPS origin, verify the Resend sending domain, restrict MongoDB network access to the deployment environment, and create the declared MongoDB indexes. Monitor Atlas connection and query metrics before changing pool sizes; the application intentionally reuses one default Mongoose pool across requests.

`npm run build:worker` creates the OpenNext worker bundle used by the connected production host.
