# Levy's Lab — Chrome / Edge / Brave Extension

A Manifest V3 browser extension that puts **HaChazal** (the master orchestrator)
in a side panel of your browser. Solves the two pain points you couldn't fix
with the cloud LLM alone:

| Angels can't access File Explorer | `📁 Pick local file` button → File System Access API → reads the file in-browser → injects as context for HaChazal. The file never leaves your machine until *you* hit Send. |
| Angels can't reach the web | `📄 Send this page` (or Ctrl+Shift+H, or right-click → "Send entire page to HaChazal") → content-script extracts main text + URL + selection → sends to the swarm. Plus the **backend** now has `/api/llm/browse` so HaChazal can fetch URLs server-side too. |

Both work with the same `lvtn-hshm-…` key you use everywhere else (CLI, PWA,
TWA, desktop shell). One identity, one HiveMind, one KTRS balance.

## What you can do

1. **Click the toolbar icon** → side panel opens with the chat.
2. **Send the current page** → grabs main text via the same DOM heuristic Reader
   Mode uses (prefers `<main>`/`<article>`, strips nav/footer/script).
3. **Right-click any selection → "Ask HaChazal about: <text>"** → the side panel
   opens with that selection pre-loaded as context.
4. **Pick a local file** → file picker; HaChazal sees the file content. Cap 4 MB
   (configurable in `sidepanel.js`).
5. **Press 🜔 Orchestrate** → HaChazal plans → dispatches sub-tasks to the 7
   Angels → synthesizes one unified answer.
6. **Ctrl+Shift+H** anywhere → "send this page to HaChazal" without leaving
   the keyboard.

## Install (developer mode, unpacked)

1. Open `chrome://extensions/` (or `edge://extensions/`, `brave://extensions/`).
2. Toggle **Developer mode** (top-right).
3. Click **Load unpacked**.
4. Pick: `C:\Users\chaza\Levys-Lab\chrome-extension`
5. Pin the icon (the puzzle-piece menu → pin Levy's Lab).
6. Click the icon → paste your Leviathan key → done.

The key is stored in `chrome.storage.local` (this machine only, never synced).

## Permissions and why

| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| `storage` | Persist the Leviathan key on this device (local only, not synced). |
| `sidePanel` | Open the chat panel. |
| `activeTab` + `scripting` | When you click "Send this page", inject the content-script that extracts main text. The script runs ONLY on the tab you're looking at and ONLY when you click. |
| `contextMenus` | Right-click "Ask HaChazal about: <selection>". |
| `tabs` | Resolve which tab is active when you press the shortcut. |

`host_permissions` is locked to `api.leviathansi.xyz` and
`portal.leviathansi.xyz`. The extension cannot make network calls anywhere
else. No tracking SDK, no analytics, no remote code.

## Security notes

- Local files picked via File System Access API never touch any third party
  unless you press Send. They're stored only in the side-panel's runtime memory.
- The content script runs in the page's isolated world (no access to page
  variables). It only reads what's already in the DOM, like a Reader Mode.
- All API calls go over HTTPS to `api.leviathansi.xyz`. The Leviathan key
  authenticates you; no cookies are used.
- Same covenant as the rest of Levy's Lab: no surveillance, no weapons, no

## To publish to the Chrome Web Store

1. Bump `version` in `manifest.json`.
2. Zip the entire `chrome-extension/` directory.
3. Upload at https://chrome.google.com/webstore/devconsole/
4. Fees: $5 one-time developer registration; no per-listing fee.
5. Review typically 1-7 days.

The same .zip works on **Microsoft Edge Add-ons** and the **Firefox Add-ons**
store (with a `browser_specific_settings` block) — same code, three stores.
