**HealthSync** is a comprehensive, production-grade **HealthTech platform** designed to bridge the gap between patients and healthcare providers. Built on the **MERN Stack** (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js), it empowers patients to take control of their health through medication tracking, vital logging, and seamless communication with doctors, while providing healthcare professionals with tools to monitor and manage their patients effectively.

### Prerequisites

- **Node.js** (v18+ recommended)
- **MongoDB** (Local instance running on port 27017 or Atlas Connection String)

### Installation

1.  **Clone the Repository**

```bash
    git clone https://github.com/dev-duel-daemon-d/HealthSync.git
    cd HealthSync
    ```

2.  **Install Dependencies**

```bash
    # Install Server Dependencies
    cd server
    npm install

# Install Client Dependencies
    cd ../client
    npm install
    ```

3.  **Environment Configuration**
    Create a `.env` file in the `server` directory:

```env
    PORT=5000
    MONGO_URI=mongodb://localhost:27017/healthsync
    JWT_SECRET=your_super_secure_access_secret
    JWT_REFRESH_SECRET=your_super_secure_refresh_secret
    CLIENT_URL=http://localhost:5173
    NODE_ENV=development
    ```

_(Optional)_ Create a `.env` file in the `client` directory:

```env
    VITE_API_URL=http://localhost:5000/api
    ```

4.  **Seed the Database (Optional)**
    Populate the DB with dummy data (Patients, Doctors, Logs):

```bash
    cd server
    node utils/seed.js
    ```

- **Patient Login**: `patient@example.com` / `password123`
    - **Doctor Login**: `doctor@example.com` / `password123`

### Running the App

1.  **Start the Backend**

```bash
    cd server
    npm run dev
    ```

_Server runs on: `http://localhost:5000`_

2.  **Start the Frontend**
    ```bash
    cd client
    npm run dev
    ```
    _Client runs on: `http://localhost:5173`_

##  Security Best Practices

- **HttpOnly Cookies**: Refresh tokens are stored in HttpOnly, SameSite=Strict cookies to prevent XSS attacks.
- **Password Hashing**: User passwords are encrypted using bcryptjs before storage.
- **Protected Routes**: Middleware verifies valid JWTs for all private endpoints.
- **Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)**: Distinct routes and permissions for Doctors and Patients.
