Windows Control Center
======================

Windows hides useful operations behind half a dozen Settings panels. This is one window that surfaces the diagnostics and fixes I actually use, with the work itself done by PowerShell scripts you can read, edit, or run from a terminal by hand. It is also moderately extensible without recompiling from source.

What it does
------------

- System health: Windows version, activation, Secure Boot, TPM, Defender, BitLocker, updates, disk health, CPU / memory / GPU, battery, firewall, event log
- Network: DNS health (latency vs. public resolvers), public IP, adapters, Wi-Fi, listening ports, Flush DNS, DNS profile switcher (Cloudflare / Google / Quad9 / AdGuard / DHCP)
- Services, scheduled tasks, and startup apps with filters and per-row enable / disable / restart
- Power plan switcher, problem-driver list, drives + SMART, Recycle Bin and temp-file cleanup
- Toggles for Game Mode, Auto HDR, HAGS, the Windows 11 taskbar layout, the classic right-click menu, telemetry, advertising ID, Cortana, and suggested content
- An Applied page lists every tweak you've turned on, with a Revert button. Backups are real `.reg` files

How it works
------------

- Avalonia 11 + FluentAvalonia, Mica backdrop on Windows 11.
    - FluentAvalonia currently does not support Avalonia 12
- Every check and every action runs as a PowerShell script under `Scripts/`. Each script returns one JSON object on stdout, which the app renders as a coloured tile.
- Registry tweaks are data, not code. `Manifest/tweaks.json` describes paths, values, and types. The C# layer handles backup-to-`.reg`, apply, and revert generically.
- Every mutating script accepts `-DryRun` and returns the same JSON shape with a `plannedChanges[]` array. The UI shows current versus next per registry value before you click Apply.

The scripts live next to the `.exe` and are intentionally editable. You can run any of the `.ps1` files by hand from `Scripts/<Category>/`, folder and run it by hand from PowerShell; it behaves the same way the app uses it.

Scripts
---------------

Every script accepts `[switch]$DryRun` and emits one JSON object on stdout:

`Scripts/_lib/Result.ps1` provides a `Write-Result` helper so scripts don't have to repetitively build the JSON by hand. `ScriptRunner` reads stdout from the bottom for the last parseable JSON line, so scripts can also emit human progress text above it.

Adding a tweak
--------------

Registry-only tweaks don't need code. Add an entry to `Manifest/tweaks.json` and it shows up on the relevant page automatically, with backup, apply, revert, and dry-run preview all kept generic. The manifest includes a minimal example, `shell.show-seconds-in-clock`:

The `category` value picks the page the tweak lands on:

- `gaming`: Gaming page
- `shell`: Taskbar & Shell page
- `privacy`: Privacy page
- `network`: Network page
- `storage`: Storage page
- `power`: Power page
- anything else: the Tweaks page, grouped by category name. Use this to add a new category without a sidebar entry

`requiresAdmin: true` will UAC-elevate on apply. `requiresRestart: true` shows a restart badge on the Applied page. Multiple `registry[]` entries are applied as a single transactional set: they all back up together, and Revert restores them together.

For anything more involved than a registry write (running an executable, calling a CIM class, parsing output), place a `.ps1` in `Scripts/<Category>/` and add a tile to the matching ViewModel.

Backups and ledger
------------------

- Registry backups live at `%LOCALAPPDATA%\WindowsControlCenter\Backups\` as
  standard `.reg` files. Double-click any of them in Explorer to restore manually.
- The applied-tweaks ledger lives at
  `%LOCALAPPDATA%\WindowsControlCenter\applied.json`.
