# Installation Guide

1. Get the code

git clone https://github.com/dtesler/medium-to-markdown

Downloads the entire project code from GitHub to your computer.

cd medium-to-markdown

Moves into the project folder you just downloaded.

2. Node.js

Easy Recommended

Prerequisites

Git Needed to download the project code from GitHub.
Node.js Node.js must be installed to use npm. The LTS version is recommended.

npm install

Downloads and installs the libraries listed in package.json.

npm start

Starts the development/run server.

✅ After running the command, open the address shown in the terminal (usually something like http://localhost:3000) in your browser.

# Medium to markdown

This module lets you take a medium post and convert it to markdown.

### Command Line Usage

**Setup:**

1. Install npm if not already installed
2. Clone the repo
3. run `npm install` inside the repo

**Outputting to command line:**

`npm run convert https://medium.com/@almenon214/keeping-yourself-motivated-as-a-coder-a16a6fcf49c7`

Replace the link with the article you want to convert.

**Outputting to file:**

`npm run convert https://medium.com/@almenon214/keeping-yourself-motivated-as-a-coder-a16a6fcf49c7 > exampleOutput.md`

### API Usage

Currently, the module supports getting the markdown from a medium post by URL.

```javascript
const mediumToMarkdown = require('medium-to-markdown');

mediumToMarkdown.convertFromUrl('<medium post url>')
.then(function (markdown) {
  console.log(markdown); //=> Markdown content of medium post
});
```
