# Installation Guide

1. Get the code

git clone https://github.com/traefik/traefik-library-image

Downloads the entire project code from GitHub to your computer.

cd traefik-library-image

Moves into the project folder you just downloaded.

2. Docker

Easy Recommended

Prerequisites

Git Needed to download the project code from GitHub.
Docker Desktop Needed to build and run containers. Install it and keep it running in the background.

docker:

Type this command into your terminal and run it.

defaultRule: "Host(`{{ trimPrefix `/` .Name }}.docker.localhost`)"

Type this command into your terminal and run it.

docker run -d -p 8080:8080 -p 80:80 \

Runs the built image as an actual container.

-v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock \

Type this command into your terminal and run it.

docker run -d --name test traefik/whoami

Runs the built image as an actual container.

✅ Run docker compose ps to check the containers are Up. If the README mentions a port, open http://localhost:PORT in your browser.

## Traefik v3 - Example usage

Enable `docker` provider and dashboard UI:

Start Traefik v3:

  traefik:v3
```

Start a backend server using the `traefik/whoami` image:

docker run -d --name test traefik/whoami
```

Access the whoami service through Traefik via the defined rule `test.docker.localhost`:

Access the Traefik Dashboard:

Open your web browser and navigate to `http://localhost:8080` to access the Traefik dashboard.
This will provide an overview of routers, services, and middlewares.
