A React Native application that uses the front-facing camera to display a real-time mirror view.

The app's functionality is intentionally simple. The focus of this project is **engineering quality**: every decision — from folder structure to CI/CD — follows professional-grade standards that reflect how production mobile applications are built and shipped.

## Motivation

This project serves as a portfolio piece to demonstrate mobile development best practices in a public, auditable codebase. It covers the full lifecycle of a mobile app: local development, automated quality gates, and deployment to both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

## On F-Droid

Miroji is published on [F-Droid](https://f-droid.org/packages/com.rogeriodocarmo.miroji/), which builds every app from source on its own infrastructure and refuses to ship proprietary dependencies. Getting an Expo application through that process took real work.

`expo-camera` hard-depends on Google's MLKit and Play Services for barcode scanning — components F-Droid will not build. Miroji applies a [patch](patches/) at F-Droid build time that removes them while preserving the module's public API, so the camera behaves identically with no Google code in the binary. Every Expo and React Native module is then compiled from source rather than consumed as a prebuilt AAR.

The result is a build with **zero anti-features** on its F-Droid listing, requesting exactly one permission — `CAMERA` — and nothing else. No network access, no storage, no analytics. At 20 MB it is roughly a third the size of the equivalent Play Store build, having dropped the emulator-only ABIs and the proprietary components.

## On macOS

Miroji also runs unmodified on Apple Silicon Macs, distributed through the same App Store listing as the iPhone app. This isn't a separate build or a Catalyst port — Apple Silicon Macs can run compatible iPhone binaries natively, since both share the same ARM64 architecture, and Apple opts every eligible app into this automatically.

It works out well here specifically because the core feature translates directly: `facing: "front"` resolves to whichever front-facing camera the OS reports, which on a MacBook is the built-in FaceTime camera — the same "look at yourself" position as a phone's selfie camera. Verified working and marked as **Verified Compatible** in App Store Connect, which removes the default "Not verified for macOS" label Apple applies to every app in this category until the developer confirms it.

## Quality Goals

This project enforces measurable quality standards at every stage of development.

### Test-Driven Development

All production code is written following the **Red → Green → Refactor** cycle:

1. Write a failing test that describes the expected behaviour
2. Write the minimum code needed to make it pass
3. Refactor without breaking the tests

No implementation file exists without a corresponding test file written first.

### Test Coverage

**Coverage threshold: 80%** across statements, branches, functions, and lines — enforced on every commit via a pre-commit hook. Commits are rejected if coverage drops below this threshold.

**Mutation score threshold: 60% (break) / 80% (target)** — Stryker verifies that tests are actually sensitive to code changes, not just present.

### Property-Based Testing

Unit tests verify specific examples. Property-based tests verify **invariants** — rules that must hold for _any_ input the generator can produce.

[fast-check](https://fast-check.dev) is used alongside Jest to express these invariants. When a property fails, fast-check automatically shrinks the counterexample to the smallest input that reproduces the failure.

## Architecture

Miroji follows a **Hexagonal (Ports & Adapters)** architecture: source dependencies point
only inward toward a pure domain, and every third-party library (`expo-camera`,
`expo-localization`) is isolated behind a port so it can be swapped by writing a single
adapter. This is a deliberate showcase of SOLID principles, design patterns, and
type-driven domain modeling on an auditable codebase.

## Branching Strategy — Git Flow
